A water purification system is the guardian of your health. At first glance, there is no harm in the water in your home, but in fact it is full of various dangers that can cause significant harm to your health. Thanks to the water treatment system for the whole house, many water problems can be solved. Clear and pure water will maintain your health and the health of your family for many years, as well as the condition of your house.
Chlorine is the major disinfectant used in public water system.
Purpose:
It kills parasites, bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms in the water.
Danger:
It forms disinfection byproducts (such as chloramines, trihalomethanes and halocetic acids).
Health concern:
The boiling point of Chlorine is at 78°F, and it vaporizes quickly in hot water turning into a gas. The steam in the shower gets concentrated with 20 times as much as the level of chlorine in the tap water. Highly concentrated Chlorine gas is being inhaled directly into the lungs.
It also affects: taste and smell of water and home-made food; skin and hair, laundry, cleaning time.
Chloramines (also known as secondary disinfection) are disinfectants used to treat drinking water.
Formation:
They are most commonly formed when in water Chlorine combines with Ammonia in a series of chemical reactions, that’s why they are considered to be disinfection byproducts (DBPs) of Chlorine.
Heath danger (by chloramine fumes):
Aggravate respiratory problems such as sneezing, sinus congestion, coughing, choking, wheezing, shortness of breath and asthma.
Halogenated Trihalomethanes (THMs) and some Haloacetic acids (HAAs)
Formation:
They are formed when chlorine combines with naturally occurring organic matter in the water. They are DBPs of chlorine.
Danger of THMs:
Exposure to THMs In small amounts on a regular basis over many years may develop bladder and colon cancers.
Exposure to higher amounts of THMs may also cause reproductive problems and birth defects.
Danger of HAAs:
Exposure to HAAs over many years may develop bladder, rectal and colon cancers and adverse developmental and reproductive effects during pregnancy.
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are toxic chemicals that both vaporize into air and dissolve in water.
Health concern (by breathing):
Exposure to Breathing VOCs can irritate the eyes, nose and throat, can cause difficulty breathing and nausea.
Exposure to some VOCs in large amounts over a long period of time can increase your risk for cancer.
Exposure to VOCs at very high levels can cause damage to the nervous and immune systems, and to the kidneys and liver.
S. Marcescens are airborne bacteria. The bacteria form pink stains in toilet bowls, shower heads, sink drains and tiles.
Life threat:
It has been shown to cause a wide range of infectious diseases, including urinary, respiratory, and biliary tract infections, peritonitis, wound infections, and intravenous catheter-related infections, which can also lead to life-threatening bacteremia(a condition where bacteria are present in the bloodstream).
Hard water commonly contains lead, iron, manganese, copper, arsenic, cadmium, mercury, boron and radon.
Danger for health:
Consumption of high levels of heavy metals is a risk of acute and chronic toxicity, liver, kidney, and intestinal damage, anemia, and cancer.
LEAD
If lead is present in your pipes and sediment is slowly deteriorating those pipes, lead can be released into your drinking water.
Health concern:
It is especially harmful for pregnant women, infants, and young children. Even a small concentration of lead in your water can accumulate in your body over time, causing damage to your heart, brain, bones, liver and kidneys.
MANGANESE
Danger of high levels of manganese in your water:
Drinking water may cause problems with memory, attention, and motor skills. Infants may develop learning and behavior problems. Older adults may develop a disorder similar to Parkinson's disease.
It also may cause black stains in toilet bowl, dishwasher, or fixtures.
Danger of high levels of Iron: In hard water the existence of iron along with certain kinds of bacteria can form a smelly biofilm (reddish brown or yellow slime) that cause an offensive odor and clog plumbing. It may leave reddish or brown stains on plumbing fixtures, bath tubs, shower walls and doors, tableware and laundry that are very hard to remove. The water with a high concentration of Ironis discolored or rusty, and it has a metallic or bad taste.
Oxidation created by iron and oxygen reaction with water produces rust. Rust may eventually eat away at the metal until it completely disintegrates.
Health concern of high levels of Iron:
The Iron bacteria create conditions for the organisms naturally occurring in shallows soils and groundwater and then introduced into a water system when it is constructed or repaired to cause diseases such as brain damage, DNA damage and cancer, heart or liver failure, and hemochromatosis.
· It also may cause skin issues damage of skin cells and eczema, make hair brittle and discolored.
Dissolved calcium (or magnesium, other minerals and salt)salt in the water flows through showerheads and faucets and gradually forms a white crusty-looking build-up called lime scales (lime deposits or lime film) that are really hard to clean away.
The main concern of high levels of calcium in your water is that it has a negative impact on your plumbing system.
It causes frequent build-up of soap scum in the showers and sinks, film that builds up on your body or hair while showering, discoloration of clothing or spots on dishes while washing using hard water.
Damage of household appliances:
The gradual accumulation of lime deposits also can quickly disable household appliances, such as a coffee maker, iron, dishwasher and washing machine.
Health danger of a high concentration of Calcium:
You risk developing Hypercalcemia that affects the central nervous system, and can disrupt the electrical impulses that govern your heartbeat. You also risk developing kidney stones.
